Tender for Lionel M1a 4 8 2 Steam Loco
Tom models O gauge and asks readers:
“I picked up a Lionel Pennsylvania M1a mountain 4-8-2 steam loco at an estate sale last year. It seems to work fine. The problem is it did not come with a tender. I thought no big deal I’ll get one from Lionel. Well they don’t have any. It was made in 2003. I’ve called all kinds of places with no luck. Does anyone know where I can get the correct tetherless tender for it? The tender has all the sound system in it.Hope someone can help!”

They are beautiful locos but not so nice without a tender. Have you tried e-bay. A very quick search and I found a used complete loco for a bit more than half the price of a new one. This still leaves you with 2 locomotives and one tender.

And then you could use the tender as a plan for scratchbuilding another one the same, completing two sets !
Then change the number on one loco to justifiably add it to your loco stable.
Or you could sell the spare. (Or keep it for spare parts.)
I don’t know where to get a tender. However, you might look on eBay at the locos with tenders that are available. That way when you do see a tender by itself, you will know if it is the correct one for your engine.
