Problem with Train Control

Art models HO scale and asks this question:

“I bought a diesel train to go along with my grandson’s bachman set. Do I need a different controller for this as it won’t work with the controller the original set came with?”

    Art,
Not much to go on. Do you get any reaction from the loco when you open the throttle (lights, motor hum?). Nothing at all may mean a poor connection in the locomotive wiring. If you are not comfortable removing the shell to look take it back to the dealer. If you are comfortable removing the shell then do so and check the wires to see if one (or more) has become detached. If so you may have a warranty claim or you can fix it yourself, I would recommend filing the claim unless you are used to working on locomotive wiring.
Another thought would be that you are trying to run a DCC equipped loco on a DC train-set. If this is the case then it will probably not run (or at least not well). Check the packaging for the loco you purchased if it states DCC equipped or something to that effect (but not DCC ready) it is probably better to return it and specify that you want a DC locomotive. This assumes that the Bachman set is not DCC.
    Good luck

Sounds to me like you have a mixture of DC and DCC. If this is the case then sorry they don’t work together, in fact if the original is DC then the DCC loco can be damaged by attempting to run it on DC

    1. What kind of set did you get. It might have been better to look at the set you already have and purchase another one like it. If the set you purchased and the one you have are Direct control there should be no problem. Otherwise refer to # 1
