On your layout is correct scale for mountain climbing important

    • Leon says:

Absolutely, BUT in saying that an all electric system with proper motive power like the Bombardier Traxx IORE locomotives made by Bombardier using a 165 pound rail and 2 percent grades could handle hundreds of thousands of tons of freight and ore per month around the clock.

The newer electric Stadler Rack Locomotives used by the MRS logistics railroad that climbs up and down the 37% grade rack railway into Sao Paulo, Brazil would also be a great electric rack locomotive for the work needed for steeper grades as well.

  • Leon says:

I would like to see a poll showing how much interest there would be for a MODERN(post 1960) mountain switchback layout railroad that would employ modern construction methods to climb mountains and cross mountain ranges rather than use tunnels which require much more work to construct and maintain.
