Sawmill Question

Please asks readers:

“I have recently bought a plastic model HO German model sawmill, Auhagen 12217. I am pleased with this small unit but am unclear as to how the 4 buildings are related. The actual sawing part is quite clear but the sequence for the logs to becoming boards is not. I would appreciate help. Thank you.”

    I have extensive exposure to small familyy sawmilling having been raised in a sawmilling family. I’m willing to share my knowledge however I’m not familiarv with the model kits you referrence. I’ll need more information from you before I can be helpful. Please provide more info.

    If its an old time saw mill the logs usually went through the mill first being cut into planks then they would be docked to length before being stored in bundles unless you have a drying shed then they would go there then being treated and finally stored to dry out before being shipped out.

    Hi, I googled the mfg and number, and came up with a pic from an ebay sale … of the arrangement .. good luck …

  • Bill says:

    I also googled the name and unit number (Auhagen 12217)
    The description identifies the buildings;

    Modeled after the sawmill in Pockau in the Iron Mountains, with work area, sawdust tower and manually operated conveyor, machine room and lumber.

    There was also a picture of the constructed model if you wish to see it. Hope that helps.
