When To Use Magnetic Couplers?

HO fan Andy asks for comments:

“I am installing eastbound and westbound track for building trains in my yard.  I intend too have magnetic uncouplers at each end of the two tracks.  Should I do so and should I have an uncoupler in the middle of the track for the convenience of those building a train?”

The only reason that I see to have an uncoupler in the middle of the track is if you are leaving some of the cars in the track and don’t want to pull them out over the lead magnet and then shove them back into the track.

I am going to assume you are using Kadee type couplings. I believe they have an uncoupling tool comprising of two magnets which ease the couplings apart when not under tension. this item would leave one free to uncouple anywhere you choose as in real life, just keep it your top pocket as you wander around, check it out may save a lot of issues elsewhere on your layout.J

I use a thin pointed stick to uncouple the cars and the engine so that i can uncouple them anywhere when needed
