1960’s Train Tracks

Johnny models HO and asks this interesting question:

“Back in the early 1960s I had some track for my HO scale train that consisted of a wooden bed that had sections (app. 3 ft. long) and rails that were one piece (app. 4 ft. long) that you used miniature spikes to install the rails to the bed. I don’t see this being used anymore. Am I remembering something that is of my imagination or has anyone else ever seen this type of track?”

Johnny, Yes I remember what you are describing. In fact, I a large number of roadbed sections (curved and straight) and rail I used in an original layout in the late 1950’s. I still have them in a large carton in the attic along with “other” HO items no longer in use as I have begun a new initiative in N scale.

You’re probably thinking of the old Tru-scale milled wooden roadbed.

  • Art J. says:

There was a company that produced a roadbed with ties made from wood. The rails were hand spiked to it. I am not sure how long the sections were back then.

Indian Rail carries 9 billion passengers every year to their destination.
