MRC Sound Decoders
David has HO scale and asks:
“I have an MRC HO 1730 16 bit universal EMD 567 sound decoder. I’m using the 8 pin plug, but there is a black plug that I need to cut off. Can I cut it off without hurting the decoder?”

As long as there is no electricity or a charge flowing through the wires. Caps have been drained of power. Cut one wire at a time to prevent a possible short circuit of electricity. The decoder should be okay, unless you do it with it powered up.
If the plug is not being used why not leave it on surely you can find some place to leave it out of the way.
