depends on the manufacturer. some are easier than others

  • Rick Hamersays:

Blue box locomotives from Athearn are not to hard to convert to dcc, there are many video s on youtube to help you along, Also some makes of other manufacturs cheers

  • Billsays:

Amount of work varies with manufacturer and age of the model. If you have never done a conversion find someone to show you what is involved (you will likely have to pay for the first one). If after seeing what is involved you are comfortable doing the rest of your roster go for it.
Once a loco has been upgraded to DCC it can be run on any DCC system.

Use Tiny Railroad Micro Controllers

A micro controller is basically a small programmable computer device to help the model railroader “make things operate.” It is clever way to realistically replicate the movements, actions and functions you are likely to see on a full size railroad.
