DCC Locos Stop Frequently
Charles has a question for those of you who have experience with DCC operation and asks:
“I recently installed 2 decoders MRC1651 in 2 different locos. For one of them, the loco seems to work pefectly, but from time to time it stops for a few seconds and it restarts usually by itself (sometimes I have to push it). The other loco has the same problem, but it will stop less frequently and for less time. I cleaned the rails and wheels several times, but the problem still persists. Any suggestions from others who have experienced similar problems would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.”

I’m New To DCC My Self, But I Just Was Reading The Instructions For My QSI RS27. There Is A CV In Chip That Checks For DCC Packet Timeout, On My Engine It Is CV 11. You Should Check This Out As It Causes The Loco To Stop, When DCC Is Not Present, The Engine Will Then Start Again After Timeout, & The DCC Signal Returns. Also You Could Have A Weak DCC Signal, The Same Thing Will Happen, Start/stop Operation. This Should Alway Happen In Same Area Of Layout, My DCC Manual (DIGITRAX) Reconmends As Bus DCC System Where Every 6 Ft Of Track, Install Feeder Wires, Keeping The Poliarity Of Rail A To Rail A & B To B.

Thanks for your comment. There’s no CV on my decoder (MRC 1651) but I’m checking for an equivalent function. Surely it’s a new (for me) and interesting idea to dig as deeply as possible.
