Kato Double Track With Problems

Rich has submitted this question for publication in the hope that some helpful model railroader will assist. Unfortunately Rich hasn’t given any details of the solutions he has tried so it may be a bit difficult for anyone to help him. Maybe someone might like to take a stab at answering and maybe Rich could use the Comments & Feedback link below his posting to add some more details so others will have a better idea on how they could help. Here is Rich’s question:

“My train set for the club use was working all too fine til today and now each engine is chugging 2 scale feet or just stops all together, we are using Kato double track and the wiring is also Kato, tried all we know and also some we learned from another member any other solutions that could help is wanted.”

One Response to Kato Double Track With Problems

Hi Rich, Good questions deserve good answers,,,sooo,,,the flow to the dyna flow must be off….just kidding. Without knowing what you actually did so far, the basics are a possible intermitten short, poor connections, did you solder all the joints and wire supply connections to the tracks, yes even on Kato snap track which I assume you are using you need to solder the connections where an insulator joint is not used. Here is a question for you are your loco’s the only ones not working or is every one haveing the same problem. Obviously if you are the only one haveing the problem you probably have a problem with your loco. Clean it real good, oil it check the wireing inside etc. If you are using DCC you may have a multiple of other problems, some answers you might find on earlier comments on this site. But as I have learned over the years go back to the basics and really start from the beginning by checking everything. Years ago I use to clean my track with steel wool????? I know I know that is a real no no but what did I know I was a kid and it worked real good until one day I did not vaccume the track real good and none of my locos would run guess what I found stuck crossing my track shorting things out a number of small pieces of steel wool cross my tracks…never again. I guess I tell you this just to show how important the little things or not so little things are. Hope this helps, or please give more details of what you did so far. Tony P
