Code 83 Or Code 100?

Ray would like advice from more experienced model railroaders and asks:

“I would like to know from the readers which track most HO people use – code 83 or code 100 and brass or steel? I have some bits of everything.”

One Response to Code 83 Or Code 100?

  • Keith Wheatley says:

    Hi,
If you have new stock then go with 83. If you have oldish stock then go with 100. Oldish stock has larger wheel flanges therefore, it needs the larger track size to accommodate it.
Go with steel track instead of brass as brass tends to get dirty very, very quickly. The only thing that I like brass for is the realistic look – especially when it has been weathered properly. The other thing I find with brass is that it does not conduct the electricity very well when using fishplates.
I use brass in sidings only where they are covered and will not attract as much dirt.
    Happy modelling !
    Keith
