I check the gauge (for HO ) with the gauge moulded on the KD coupler height gauge. I always use Peco track and I never use it again if I have to pull it up after a long period of time. (you know, years in the one configuration). Too many gauge hassles. Nothing is worse than delrailments caused by track problems. I hope this helps.
