Hi Janet,
The Model Train Help Ebook in my opinion is a must for anybody getting started. I recently got back into the hobby after quite a few years absence and like anything else these days, technology seems to be taking over. Trust me you will not find a better source of information than Roberts Ebook. From deciding what scale to use through to DCC and scenery etc.etc. the book is a never ending source of information. The internet is also a very good source of information with a lot of devoted and knowledgeable modellers prepared to share their thoughts with others. You will make some mistakes along the way, but do not be alarmed, I still do, but feel confident that there is always someone who will jump at the opportunity to help you. Welcome to the hobby, I am sure you will get a lot of satisfaction from it.
Regards
Johnca51

Janet, I wholeheartedly agree with Robert. If you haven't already, buy the Model Train Help ebook. It is full of "How to" articles.
I use it as my first resource when I have a question.
