The foam really deadens the sound so the sound system in the locomotive sounds much better. It also makes carving terrain much easier, especially the ditches and gullies.

I glued it down to the MDF base with contact cement. A tricky job but totally effective. The cork deadens all of that echo that comes from track on bare wood.
