Hi Terry:In a later posting, I priodve a layout plan which shows the room walls on it as well. It's done to a scale of 2 squares = 12 inches. The widest part of the basement is 14-15 feet.In addition, there's need for decent access along both sides of the peninsula (the projection behind the peninsula is actually a wall of sliding doors, to access the furnace and other utilities). As for why not a linear layout, I found that if I wanted any measure of operation, I'd be doing an industrial switching district a very tightly packed space and while I enjoy these layouts when others build them, I'd rather do something more rural, with a sense of going somewhere. That going somewhere thing was a real problem with Proto:48 less so with S for two reasons:- I can use tighter curves (and switches are only 3/4 the size) which allows me to fit a second town on the line before staging, and- The equipment is 25% smaller including in length so I could fit a small but still decently sized train into staging. I would've been really limited in train length in O scale.Good question and good suggestion thanks for sharing them here.Cheers!- Trevor
