What is the layout environment? AC? Humidity control? Is the movement definitely related to the temperature or is it possible that the relative humidity affects it? And what is the temperature range in the environment? How is the track fastened?

Perhaps the Homasote is moving, although in my experience, it doesn't move much, if at all. It is best to seal the Homasote to mitigate the effect of humidity changes. I have used latex paint, but anything similar should do fine.
