Have you isolated the siding?You can do so by cutting a gap in the outside rail just after the point leading off the loop.Solder two wires either side of the gap and take them to a s.p.s.t.switch.

That would probably be the best starting point. Seems there may have been some earlier issues that may have been worked out.
