Send it back to Bachmann . I believe postage and return postage is like 15 dollars and you get it fixed or a new one, and they haven’t made the Plymouth in years so they may upgrade you to something else . But yes upgrade to Atlas, Kato, these engines are very nice and run very well, hope this helps, and also hit the train shows you may find some engines for parts it’s a cheap fix, and you get to learn more about the tinkering aspect.

I have the same problem here in New Zealand “No parts are available.” we can sell you an new engine I had a Bachman HO scale Paire loco 2-6-2 steam engine that was dropped at a train show by a kid that wanted to hold the engine as it was running along. It broke the valve gear on one side and the plastic shell. His father said it was not the kids fault as he did not know what “Do not touch ” stood for and he refused to pay ther cost of another engine. I do have insurance but they wanted to get it fixed and had to get a letter from three different retailers to say no parts available before they wiould pay out.

I’ve had same problem with these engines in Australia – every where I go I’m told that no parts are available – so no more of these.

U wouldn’t buy a car unless Spare Parts were available!!!

I like Bachmann. I only buy the higher end ones, not the toys. If you contact Bachmann they do have a repair center. I sent out 2 daylight steamers for $50.00 total and they repaired one and had to replace the other with a new one. both of these engines were over 15 years old.

There’s places where you can send for parts, but it might cost more than the engines deserve. And don’t forget they’re N-scale, so a person has to be able to work with very small parts. I agree with you completely about “no more” Bachmann or Life-Like. Those engines are the low of most makes. Use Atlas or Kato for good running equipment – they cost more than the others but they run and run and run. But I wouldn’t throw out the locos out that you need parts for. Take some of the guts out of them and use them as dummy engines.
It’s just an opinion, but I’d put Walthers engines in with the lower ones. Their paint is unrealistic and so bright it almost glows in the dark.
