You would have to do a lot of checking around – try collections and buyers who take in a large inventory. Dealers online mainly offer sets a manufacturer has available at the present time. As Chris said, E-bay can be a help. But be careful – the 4-8-4 in this set may also be old, and you don’t want an engine that has to be repaired, if it can. What you can do, since you know the set, is to build it with present models. There’s many 4-8-4 Steam Engines on the market, along with passenger cars. But I know what you mean by having old sets. In 1960 Lionel came out with what they called the “Father and Son” set which sold for $100 then (a fortune). If you have a “Father and Son” now and still in the box, you call the shots as far as the money goes for selling it.
