I used dowel rods, but I didn’t have the right gear to put them in, so I put the two pieces together and drilled a hole through both sides about six times for four feet. Then I stuck the dowel pieces in one side and glued them into the hole. When they were dry the two pieces fitted together perfectly.

Requires 2 1/2″ deep 3/4″ holes with a groove between. One hole in each board. A threaded rod threads (left and right hand threads) into each round piece that fits in the recessed hole. Turn the rod and the boards are pulled tightly against each other. Available at builders supply and counter top fabricators.

They are a machined male / female plug and socket.
