I go with numbering from outside to inside clockwise. Example: outer loop including sidings are 1 to 6' then next loop is 6-12 and so on. I have a CAD drawing of my layout and have the frogs numbered there. Numbers with Dymo on actual switch controllers

Difficult to come up with a solution without seeing a track plan. I have 42 turnouts/double slips on my layout so a system of numbering was essential even though I use a mimic panel.

The method I use now is to allocate a number to each track. (Alternatively use a letter or letters, e.g. UM=Up Main,R=Relief, etc) So the first turnout on the Down Main (Track 4) can be designated as DM1 or T4A, the second as DM2 or T4B etc.

Bear in mind that a crossover can be regarded as a single unit and the two turnouts wired to operate from a single 'lever'. The two turnouts on my down main that give access to a loco holding siding could be designated DM2 and DM2a, or T4B and T4Ba.

For my hidden sidings, I just have tracks 1 to 6, and then numbered the turnouts as above.

I was going to point you towards an up-to-date track plan on my site, but I haven't updated since renumbering the tracks.but the image at http://trains.manvell.org.uk/misc/SignalsWestEnd.jpg should help.

Draw a signals/switch plan as would be found in a train control room then you can number your switches on the plan. Underneath your board you can number your switches to help with your wiring.

I 2nd that and ask for some advice on this. I have an HO layout and have 11 switches on a 4x8 table. I'm just about to the point of needing to assign numbers to the switches. Then I can wire them up and number the remote switches at the control panel. The only idea I had so far was to pick the #1 switch and then go clockwise. But then I would be crossing into the secondary line. So please anybody please give Jim and Myself some ideas. Thank You.
