Yes the trucks are still available Just picked up a box car at a show last weekend with new plastic trucks and metal wheels. The truck included 2 springs on each side and the truck flexed so all wheels stayed with the track on un-even track. Not sure it was a Kadee (probably not) but they are still out there.
I have many older die cast freight cars, and almost all of them have sprung trucks. As far as I know, Central Valley and Kay Dee still sell sprung trucks. What I like is that they have metal wheels. Having metal wheels allows the cars to make clicking sounds as they move down the tracks etc. The older sprung trucks can get sloppy as they age, and sometimes they come apart, but I still prefer using them over the plastic trucks. However, the metal trucks with metal wheels will cause short circuits in the event of a derailment, whereas the plastic ones usually won't. The metal trucks and wheels also add more weight to each car, and sometimes more friction and drag, and that will require a strong pulling locomotive.
