Thanks guys for the tip. Found wheels were the problem and am working on the depth so they won't lift and break contact. When filing down to make it deeper any recommendations on working the sides also, or just leave them as they are?
Blessings

Howdy Chris,

I also use older 1950 to 1970 engines and some are 0-4-0 which tend to stall out on frogs that are not powered. I found out the hard way on my first layout. I finally went to powered frogs which eliminate the stalls on the crossovers. I use Atlas snap relays hooked up to the switches to power the frogs. I am not a fan of insulated frogs as 0-4-0 switcher engines will always stall on the frogs. All my turnouts (switches) are now Atlas Customline Mark III or Mark IV´s. I have a double crossover on my layout and the frogs are powered using Atlas snap relays.

Older stock generally have deeper flanges on the wheels so firstly check the wheel gauge then carefully run a wheel set over the crossover and note if there is a lifting of the wheel as it crosses the frog. If this is the problem then either file the flange down or dig the base of the frog deeper.
