The rails were hand spiked to it. I am not sure how long the sections were back then.

In fact, I a large number of roadbed sections (curved and straight) and rail I used in an original layout in the late 1950’s. I still have them in a large carton in the attic along with “other” HO items no longer in use as I have begun a new initiative in N scale.
