The system is not compatible with anything else. If the appeal was the big, simple touchscreen that operates absolutely everything, take a look at the Z21 system from Roco/Fleischmann. It also works from a do-all touchscreen, it’s just as easy to use, you don’t have to buy controllers, and it’s compatible with anything meeting NMRA standards. The black version supports a programming track, the white version doesn’t.

It’s a great new concept with the ability to run trains using DCC or Radio. I believe the radio part is Blue Tooth, but I’m not sure. I don’t know if any off the shelf locomotives come with Rail Pro installed. The modules appear larger than the typical DCC decoder, and from what I’ve seen, they cost more, but sound great. You can actually run a Rail Pro equipped locomotive on battery power, you can’t do that with DCC. I like the controller for Rail Pro that will have an image of the loco you are running, but that controller was pricey. I was excited when I first looked at Rail Pro, but disappointed at the costs. I have a large fleet of DCC, and won’t be changing over, but to someone new starting out, who doesn’t mind paying a little more, Rail Pro has lots of bells and buzzers you will probably love. I have not used a Rail Pro system, I have watched the on line videos. The big plus for Rail Pro is that it is compatible with DCC, and that you can add battery power to locomotives if you have the room for them. The Controller is also nice, being wireless.
