My controller has a 1.4amp output which is sufficient for the job. The locos must have similar running characteristics or you will find one will struggle and wheel slip all the time which could lead to motor problems later on.

(DCC systems usually can be configured for different locos.)

The transformer & controller must be powerful enough to supply the necessary current for both locos together, otherwise the PSU unit will be overloaded and cut out (or burn out).
