Software for CNC

Bart who models N scale asks:

“I have access to a CNC machine that will create a 3D model from a topo map in foam for my N scale train. What I need is the software that interfaces with the CNC unit. Any ideas?”

The software for CNC consists of a CADCAM system the CAM is what you’re looking for, is called MESHCAM. It does a fairly good job on 2D and 3D models.

Hope this helps.

I’ve been looking into 3D printing and from that I would guess you need 2 things. A 3D CAD model or program to create it. Then a G-code translator of the CAD file. I would think the translator would depend on the controller you’re using. I would google around on the controller’s manufacturer. I’m sure the mainstream industrial stuff will be expensive but there may be alternatives.
