Shell Removal 2000 Series SD45 Locomotive
Gary asks readers for help removing the shell on his loco:
“My Proto 2000 series SD45 loco met with a slight accident and I need to remove the shell to do some repairs. The paper work that came with the unit is so vague I do not like to continue until some advice is forth coming. My nearest hobby shop is some 500km away and the staff there are more into things that go fast. Can any one help please?”

Gary, my Proto 30 comes off by first taking the coupler boxes out, front and rear, then with your fingers or a small screwdriver pull the fuel tank free of the engine,there should be two small phillips head screws right in front of fuel tank Remove them.In front and rear there are a phillips head screw right below where the coupler box was, remove them. That should release the body, carefully pull it free…..Hope this helps. The power to the main question, the distance can vary, with a Digitrax system and 360 feet of main line, I ran jumpers about every five feet, if switches are in place to drop into a industrial yard or leave the main i also power right ahead of the switch. There is nothing written in stone, the more jumpers the better performance.
