Decals Made Easy?

James is having trouble with decals and is wondering if others experience similar problems. If you can give James any advise – please do, as I’m sure he (and many others) would like to hear your thoughts on decals. James asks:

“Is there a definitive source that will demonstrate/explain the art of decaling? My skills are horrible at best and I want to learn/master the intricacies of decaling.”

One Response to Decals Made Easy?

  • Herb Sr says:

James, shallow container to hold water, decals, and solvaset from walthers, a decal setting solution….Decals work best on slick, gloss finishes, but will also work on a duller surface if its clean…First clean car mild soap and water, dry or let dry, cut out decal, put in water, 45 seconds or so , this can vary, make sure its out of water before it starts to come off paper in the water, you can check on and off till it starts to slide on paper..Put wet decal on paper towel and this gets the excess water, apply decal to surface, then use the solvaset, it has a applicator brush, make the decal wet, it can now be repositioned if need be with the solvaset, a puddle will work…Do not dab around on the decal, let it evaporate on its own, on ridges and uneven surfaces the solvaset will help pull the decal down…You can dab away around the decal, but not on it….Let decal dry, I sometimes let the car set overnight. Take your time and you can do a whole car, just do not disturb the fresh decals…Sometimes they dry fairly quickly….You can come back later and also use more solvaset on a uneven surface or car rib, and it will again work to pull the decal down snug….After dry a dull coat can be applied if need be…
