Frogged Wye

Herb has a question and is hoping someone can help:

“Does a frogged wye solve a reverse loop polarity problem? Is their anyway to make a loop that comes back into the same single track line? Thanks!”

Nope, you have to totally insulate part of the track using insulated rail joiners because the WYE configurations will create a short circuit just like a reversing loop does. You can purchase a device called an AR1 from Digitrax that will AUTOMATICALLY do the polarity switching for you in WYE and reverse loop situations. It comes with very simple and clear instructions for installation. Most on-line railroad supply stores have them and I think you can get them on eBay as well. They cost about $25 (US).

    Hope this helps.

    The AR1 works with DCC.

For DC operation you have to go with the standard DPDT switch.

There are books dealing with the wiring with regards to both systems, your best bet is to find one for reference.
