Find a local club that runs DCC and see how it works. I assure you that you will never look back to DC, it simply cannot replicate operations the way DCC can. It allows you to run locomotives independent of each other, regardless of electrical polarity because each loco has a “brain” you command from a transmitter. Because you’re just starting your layout, now is the best time to incorporate it into your layout.
DCC is a great innovation to model railroading BUT the one major drawback is: You must take extreme care in laying the track. Digital signal quality to the locomotives is very important. I would recommend connections to every two sections of track and by all means keep the track clean otherwise you may experience slow downs, stops etc. With good clean track it is a rewarding experience.
