I have tried both – soldering is more permanent and does not bleed off the current – you install joiners with leads and you go on tight but they also stretch – hence – loss of current –
I belong to a Train club and we have all soldered wires on our club layout. They are reliable and don’t shrink/expand with heat and cold. Our DCC layout is 40 x 30 N trac modular layout
if it is a temporary layout I would only solder the jointer s if its a perminet layout solder every track section between the joints and run a 14 or 12 gaudge buss wire under the layout to connect all the track feeders back to the power supply. Also doing this allows the track to expand and contract on cold and hot days
