Broadway Switcher Will Not Respond to Throttle

“I have quite new HO DCC Broadway LTD Switcher with excellent sound and also great movement. It responds forward and back, then suddenly sound remains normal, but I lose all throttle response. I love this little Diesel Switcher. Does anyone have a suggestion to this problem? Thanks.”

Sounds like a problem with the signal from the decoder. Unless you have changed the locomotive address, it should be 03. I use both Digitrax Zephyr Extra and MTH DCS Commander controls. If using Digitrax, you can go to programming mode. Set it for programming on the main ( OPS) mode. Make sure no other locomotive is on the track. Then do a CV change. You type in CV 08 and then Make CV 08, 08. This resets the locomotive to factory condition. Also you can contact Broadway Limited Imports on their web site or by E-mail. They do offer troubleshooting tips on line. As a last resort, if still under warrantee, you can send the locomotive to them and they will repair it at no charge. I have done this once and was very satisfied with their response.
I agree with James, but first I would do two things that you probably have already done. First check the wheels to make sure they are clean and free from the oil and dirt. Second check the sections of track for dirt and oil. Switchers seem to be more subject to halting due to dirt because the have fewer electrical pickups.
James and Ed are on the right track. One question is have you had it on someone else’s layout? If so did you have it in a consist with another engine? I have had this happen to me. I have digitrax and my friend has NCE. I took mine to his layout with another engine (both mine) I consisted the engines on his layout using his equipment. I was in a hurry to get home and forgot to break the consist and also dispatch the engines from his system. I don’t know your situation but when the systems are setting the consists. other systems send the changes differently even though if does the same effect. So If you don’t de- consist your engines or dispatch them you can run into this situation. I don’t know if this happens when you do this on the same brand of systems but I always dispatch and de-consist before shutting down on someone else’s system. As far as your situation you should go back to factory resets using CV8 and go to 008. This takes it back to factory settings and an address of 03. Once you have control then you can reset the address to your preference or serial no. of the engine (how ever you do it.) Pretty much as James and ED said. You should get control of the engine after this reset. Another choice to check is pop the hood and check to make sure that the motor is prperly attached with the wires to the chip. One way to check this is when you do a factory reset or any address change and you hit enter it should make the engine jump a couple of times when it accepts the change. If you don’t get the movement or get a reset then you will probably need to pop the hood. Hope this helps and watch for this situation will help you to not get into it again. from Newman
