Planning Track Layout

Jeff has a question for experienced model railroaders and asks:

“When starting out, do you lay down your tracks first to get an idea of how it will end up?”

End of the day up to you
I have made a plan using Atlas’s free Tracking Planning Software to give a rough idea of what I want in my layout. Then I began laying the track to the plan and sure enough changes were made.
And so since the beginning of the year, changes to the plan were made, track was laid, didn’t like it or didn’t work so more changes to the plans and track laying were made – it is an endless cycle.

So my personal advice, do plan, but go with your gut 🙂 – pleasant surprises that add to the RR experience often come about.
