Old Tyco Locomotives

Here is a reader question you might like to answer:

“I have an old tyco locomotive over 25 years old.The light works, the motors will not run. How do I check out the motors. Also can I clean the motors with something?”

Their motors are less than satisfactory…made for the toy market, even if you get them running, it won’t be long before they go south again.

Don’t lose hope though as many of us TYCO fans simply remotor them with CD-ROM motors…

…while for the Chattanooga, the blocks are the same. On this one, the small pinion gear cracked but I found that the large bull gear from another worked just fine by flipping it around and reducing the size of the gear.
