DCC Interior Lights

Steve would like some advice from DCC railroaders:

“Hi, I brought an HO Roco train and carriages set which is dcc. I put Roco interior lights in the train set. It has wire going to the axle but no light seem to be working.  Would I have to program them into my dcc unit? Any help would be great. Thank you”

I don’t have Roco but do use DCC. If the two wires from the interior lights are linked to the right and left metal wheels of the carriage then they should be on continually as power flows through the rails. If the lights are not working then you will need to improve connectivity. Try fitting sprung connectors to the wheels (similar to those on engines) and solder the wires to the connectors.
To operate the lights through the DCC control you will have to fit a decorder inside the carriage between the power wires and lights and programe the DCC controller. Hope this is useful.

If you use LED’s make sure you have a resistor on one wire. I use values fron 1k ohm to 1.8k ohm to drop the current or else it will burn out . Those values are for HO gauge.
