How Do Kato #6 Turnouts Compare?

Peter asks readers:

“I bought a Bachmann train set prior to Christmas. I then expanded the layout with extra track and turnouts. I personally have found the turn outs to be extremely unreliable and I am considering buying Kato #6 turnouts instead. Are the Kato turn outs remote as I would like to run to engines and isolate one at a time on a siding?”

One Response to How Do Kato #6 Turnouts Compare?

  • James Penglase says:

I use both Bachmann EZ track and Kato Unitrack. I have had no problem with the Kato turnouts. I did have problems with the Bachmann turnouts. I found that the plastic guard rail section just before the frog tended to be just a little higher than the regular rails. I was getting derailments right on the turnout. My solution was to take a nippers and used it to bevel the ends of the guard rails. That solved the problem.
