MRC Sound Decoders

David has this question for readers:

“I have a MRC HO 1730 16-bit universal EMD 567 Diesel sound decoder coming in the mail. Can anyone tell me anything about this decoder?”

I have two of them and never gad a problem with either one. Good decoders, especially for the price.

I have several of the sound only decoders … no problem with any of them.
I do however use the NCR 4 function motor controllers not needing other functions …

I have installed several MRC decoders including the MRC1730 and found them to be very good for the price. However like any sound decoder the quality of the sound is in the speaker system. Always use the largest enclosed speaker you can fit in the locomotive. Don’t cheap out on the speakers. As for operation of the decoder they work very well. You do have less aux options, but few are used by most anyway. Mine came with the 26mm round enclosed speaker and they are very good. Good luck!

MRC decoders are lots of trouble for me. I’ve have a major problem I tested it on the layout and on DC it runs 100% but just as I install the DCC sound decoder then there’s NO forward movement. Reverse works fine, lights and sound works perfectly… Model 0001644
