1st Radius Curves

Peter models OO and asks:

“Does anyone have a list of locomotives that will negotiate a 1st radius curve, either Hornby or Bachmann? I know all large steam locos will not work but are there any diesel or electric locos that will work. Thanks in advance for any help.”

    Hi!

I use Hornby 4 and 6 wheelers on Trix 1st radius C-tracks, which have smaller radius (360mm), than Hornby/Peco ones.

I think, most of the boogie diesel and electric locomotives will work on 1st radius. There is a British YouTube channel with shunting and small layouts. They tried several Hornby locos on their small exhibition layout which only contains 1st radius curves.

For the most part, 2% grade is the most it should really be now I think I went a little more on mine but it is still working however I am limiting my trains in those areas to no more than 5 cars. I have a DCC HO layout BNSF and finally got running two trains. I have a couple of spots I need to tweak. I have heard mentioned that on average 2% is the grade. I know I have mine climbing and going around a curve at the same time.
