DCC HO Question

Norman wants to hear from anyone who can help him with his HO DCC problem:

“I am wanting to get instructions and drawings to install DCC in a Bowser Challenger and Big Boy. I understand the metal frame is one side of the motor so I will need to insulate the motor from the frame. As I understand it, the decoder should be mounted in the tender, which I do not have. Am I correct – can anyone suggest anything?”

One Response to DCC HO Question

    Robert,
I too have Challenger by bowser that I have recently aquired that I am wanting to convert.

I fear mine is of the original 1948 run that had super motor that uses frame as part of power pick up.

There is a repower solution made by Northwest Short Line – though requires pretty major surgery to perform – this should provide Isolation of motor from frame and also allow easier DCC conversion.

Easiest way to check your loco is pull boiler off and start running over loco with multi meter to see where the power is going. First try a continuity check with loco frame and motor frame (using ohm setting and with out power applied to loco)

If I get a chance I’ll pull my boiler off this weekend and look into mine. Contact me direct via [email protected] to share your experiences.
