Model Control Master 20

“I have Model Control Master 20, made by Model Rectifier Company. The unit was struck by lighting and blew capacitor C8 top off. I could not locate the any information off the capacitor. I’m wondering if anyone help identify the capacitor”

put your controller in a museum, It’s not worth fixing. Use this as an opportunity to go DCC, chip ypour locos and enjoy driving your trains rather than driving your layout,

Look at the blown resister carefully. You should be able to see some sort of identification printed on the side. Use that info in a search on google and you should get some hits from electronic supply places. Cost will be cheap and only requires some minor resoldering. You can also contact Marc. I have found them very helpful as well.

Bruno, While David says to just dump the old and get going in DCC, Yes this is a good time to think about it, If the fix of the transformer is a easy fix, I’d say go for it. But David is right, Think about the DCC conversion. You would be glad you did in the long run. I know it is a big change but if I were able to connect my DCC system to your layout right now I am almost certain your going to be shopping for a DCC system very soon just as I explained to someone in a question above yours. That DC transformer can be used to power other things, But so much can be powered by that DCC System. I am running multi-able engines at the same doing various tasks including multi-able directions of engines of the same track. Your worst decision in your purchase would be the brand of DCC you would buy.
Fix the transformer but don’t waste much money on it and start looking for that DCC System.
