DCC Controller
Stuart asks readers.
“Which controller should I buy? I’m new to the hobby but I want dcc with sound. I am in my 60’s and am not as dextruss with my hands. My own thoughts is the Viessmann 5300. If I am spending this sort of money advise would be welcome.”

Depending on where you live, the best DCC controller is the one that does what you want at the price you can afford. There is no substitute for doing the research. I learned from the masters to make a list of all the features I want, whether its model railroad or buying an automobile. I list the features that are “must-have” as “givens.” The features I’d like to have but aren’t deal-breakers if they aren’t there as “druthers.” It is one of the most helpful tools.
Make your givens and druthers list and buy the DCC system that fills the bill!
I wish you every success.
The DCC system I use and recommend is the NCE Power Cab. It retails for around $180 or so and is a great system for the beginner in DCC. It has all the feature of it’s higher end counter part the NCE Pro Cab but with less power. But if you’re like me and rubbing only 2 maybe 3 trains at the same time, the the 2 amps available with the system is adequate and you can always buy an additional boother later on if you’re expanding your layout to run more trains.
