Motor Not Spinning on Armature

“My Bachman Spectrum C&O 2-6-6-2 locomotive has a seized (won’t turn) motor. All mechanisms work but the motor won’t turn. It had been running fine but I was wondering if a Digitrax DCC Zephyr 52 power pack running a DC locomotive may have caused overheating? Does anyone have a solution please?”

I run HO plus DCC locos and have at odd times left a DC loco on a DCC track. The slight whine from the DC loco hinted to me that it was in distress so was promptly removed. Altho one should be able to run a DC loco with a Zephyr DCC controller the loco address should be set to 00 but I doubt if you would get the same performance.With my system set up with blocks I can run both DCC and DC but you have to be careful.J
If you leave a DC loco on the track on any address other than 00 (setting for DC loco), then your DC loco will have the motor oscillating, rather than turning, that will most likely overheat the motor, and cause damage. Any plastic inside of the motor will be warped, thus freezing it up. This would be cause by the DCC system’s AC current on the track.
I would send it back to Bachman for repair.
