Weighting Trains

“Can Locos be wieghted so that they are firmer to the track and make better contact without damaging the grears or gearboxes? Also is there a salution to coat wheels to make better contact for DCC?”

I have a layout,360 feet mainline, two levels 30 plus engines, run digitrax DCC…Have never weighted an engine, have not had the need to.. Todays locos have good weight, if its a large train I use more than one engine, we have laced up six engines on a 196 car coal train just for kicks, DCC is great…If your track is clean as is youe wheels you never need anything to put on the wheels for better contact. if you lack power maybe you need more jumpers to your layout..The only thing that needs weight is youe cars, 1 ounce plus 1/2 ounce for ever inch of car that you run…Makes a major difference during operations, stops derailments, allows for push engines also… hope this helps some….Herb Sr
