Do your readers know if there is arocky mountaineer engine and carriages on the market anywhere. I live in New Zealand.     Q1. Silica Dessicant (Silicagel) packages under a heavy cotton cloth should prevent some of the humidity problem. Weather seals fitted to doors and windows should help as well depending on your local climatic conditions.

    Q3.Kalmbach Publications and Atlas Rail Road Publishing have some excellent books on Benchwork and track Layouts. One in particular is 101 Track Layouts.
