Loco Problem

Abdul wants to hear from readers on their thoughts on why his loco is stopping and starting:

“My n scale locomotives starts when I nudge it, then after travelling a bit it stops. I then give it a nudge and the same is repeated. What could be the reason and how to overcome it?

One Response to Loco Problem

  • Alex says:

There’s not a lot of detail here, but I had a similar problem with an older locomotive recently. I suspect that since it moves at all, the electronics are ok.
It may be a mechanical problem. See if you can apply electricity to the unit without the wheels touching the track. If the train spins along happily, it’s likely that there is something loose in the chassis that is putting pressure on a gear or the worm and causing it to lock.
You may have to tighten a screw, or jam something in there to keep the engine block spaced properly.
