Magnet and Electromagnetic Un-couplers

John has a question to test readers. Add your comments below.

“I have both the permanent magnet and electromagnetic un-couplers and am having difficulty with both.

I have the electromagnetic coupler under my track but unlike the old Lionel uncouplers I grew up with does not immediately uncouple when energized. I see the small things below the coupler move but it does not uncouple. What am I doing wrong?

Is there an uncoupler that will work on HO that is similar to the old Lionel did, just push a button and pull over to uncouple instantaneously?"

  • Alan says:

    You may have a wiring issue;

    Power supply not supplying enough current or voltage under load.

    To small of wire for the length of run
    Cold solder joint.

    Good Luck ~AlanC.

    I have found that after stopping over the magnet, go into reverse a hair to let the couplers disengage.
    keep it on the tracks,

      I spent last weekend trvnleiag nealry 900 miles (round trip) to visit some family members and had the great pleasure of only driving about 100 miles of it. So I spent the rest of the time admiring what the states south of me have to offer and napping. I saw all of these signs and ads for train museums and train rides and it made me think if my grandpa who died 14 years ago this week. He used to take my sister and I on train rides and helped us set up and play with our train set. I don’t have any knowledge of trains but enjoy the memories they bring forth of the time I spent with one of the greatest men I will ever know. I know you are enjoying this time with Theo. You’ll think back fondly on these memories when he is over the trains and is on too baseball or comic books or whatever. And then you’ll have those memories too.
