8amp Power Supply for Digitrax DCC System
Ken has a question for those experienced in DCC setup and operation and asks:
“I purchased a digitrax DCC system with has an 8amp rating. I hope I know what I am getting into. My question is – To get the max performance out of the system I assume I have to purchase an 8amp power supply? Is that correct?”

Most power supplies are not rated at 100% duty cycle and what ever you buy it should at least a 25% above what you want to get out of it. That said you should call Digitrax’s and see what they recommend— I have a 8amp unit and after some sole searching, I cried all the way to the bank and bought there power supply.(WHY) because if anything goes wrong, its totally on THEM and they can’t say its something YOU did ~AlanC.
Ken, to my knowlege digitrax makes 8 amp boosters, its called a DB200, this is a booster only, it has no command station capability……….The 8 amp command station/booster is a dcs200 which is probably what you are dealing with, its ready to run trains, 120 address capability. The power supply I use is a PS515, for the super chief set and all boosters…If you have the dcs200 its a super chief….The power supply sells 49.95….go to digitrax.com, for more info, go todigitrax.com/booster for more info, go to digitrax.com/power for more info…..We run four digitrax layouts in our area here, they are super, read all the books on them and ask questions if need be, you will learn it….Herb Sr
