Switch Problems Code 83

Jerry has a question fopr blog readers and asks:

“Why are switches and switch motors such a problem? Most switches (code 83) are too delicate and under table switch motors are weak and don’t have the strength in the arm to throw the forks, and power supplies are almost non existent.”

One Response to Switch Problems Code 83

  • Ben says:

Out of interest which brands have you been using and more to the point where are you from? Although on my layout is mainly Code 100 track and (Atlas) Snap Switches, I have been “trialing” Atlas Code 83 Wye and Custom #4 and 6 turnouts with under table switch machines to no problems yet.
As for power supplies, living in a nation that uses 240V instead of 110V has posed a few issues with a requirement of a few bulky transformers but that is something I’ll have to live with until I build my own house (I Suppose)
