Making Buildings Look Real

I took some digital photos of the displays in some local shop windows and reduced them on my computer and printed them out so they fit the scale of my buildings. I glued them in place and covered them with some clear acetate to represent windows – you could use recycled clear plastic lids.

There is a process with acrylic paint and stiff brushes called dry brushing. You can make any shiny plastic structure you have put together or one that is purchased already put together, look totally real with this paint. Experiment on the reverse side of the plastic. I used a cream color on a dark brown plastic building and the “bricks” looked great.
